Gamma Talks was founded by Arushi Rohilla and co-founded by Janhavi Aherrao during the pandemic. Their aim was to create a platform where artists and writers can spread positivity amid the pandemic.
Extending our Agenda to social issues
By June 2021, we had extended our agenda to social issues. Examples include exploring the impact of economic disparities, advocating for mental health awareness, and highlighting the importance of educational equity.
Publishing expert opinions and educational videos
In July 2021, we had the privilege of hosting experts in nutrition and mental health who conducted a series on staying healthy amidst COVID-19. Their insightful videos were published on our platform and reached a significant audience, offering valuable advice and support during challenging times.
Establishing seven departments of expertise
By September 2021, we established seven departments under which our writers focused their efforts. These departments were Gender Equality, Environment, Education, Politics, Economics, Peace, and Other, allowing us to cover a wide range of critical societal issues comprehensively.
Our first Global Campaign
After consistently posting, June 2022 marked the launch of our first global campaign, which highlighted the stories of individuals from around the world who faced identity issues during their lives. This campaign allowed us to connect with many inspiring individuals, sharing their journeys and amplifying their voices to a wider audience.
Our first Fundraiser Smiles
Our first fundraiser, Smiles, was conducted in September 2022. We hosted a series of public speaking competitions at a local school, covering various social issues such as gender equality, environmental conservation, and mental health awareness. With a personal contribution of ₹50 from each participant, we successfully accumulated over ₹12,000. This amount was donated to an orphanage in Pune, and through these funds, we were able to purchase ration, stationery, and toys for the children.
Launch of Gamma 2.0, a new approach
In July 2023, we announced Gamma 2.0, which introduced a slightly different approach to our awareness efforts. By connecting more deeply with our audience, we began using reference points such as songs, articles, and movies. These reference points served as effective tools for raising awareness, helping our audience understand important issues through a medium we all love: entertainment. This innovative approach resonated with many individuals, fostering a stronger connection and deeper engagement with our mission.
Gamma crosses 200 members
By October 2023, we had collaborated with 200 people across India and internationally. Our team comprised writers, interns, editors, artists, and speakers, all contributing their unique skills and perspectives to further our mission.
At Gamma Talks, we recognize that our evolution from a student-led awareness group to a dedicated research organization would not have been possible without the invaluable contributions of our original members. Their passion, dedication, and hard work laid the foundation for everything we have achieved and continue to strive for. This page is dedicated to honoring their efforts and celebrating the pivotal role they played in our journey. Even as we grow and change, we remain deeply grateful for their commitment to our mission and their enduring impact on our organization.
While Janhavi Aherrao no longer remains a part of Gamma’s new transition, she has served as an integral part of Gamma Talks. From co-founding the organization, to selecting our theme colors, her graphic contributions and strong managerial ability remain an invaluable part of Gamma forever!
